Our History
Supplying the Irish Trade Since 2004
Founded in 2004 by husband-and-wife team Pascal and Siobhan Bonnichon, The French Market was born from a shared passion for bringing the very best of French produce to Irish tables.
Siobhan, from Leitrim, and Pascal, from France, met while on Erasmus in 1987. They married and went on to spend the next two decades living in France, where Pascal built over 15 years of experience with French supermarket giant Carrefour. When the couple eventually returned to Ireland, they brought that expertise — and their love of all things French — with them, laying the foundation for what The French Market would become. From the beginning, one thing was certain: they wanted to stay close to what the French call Produits du Terroir — food and wine with a genuine sense of place.
Growing With Our Customers
More than 22 years on, The French Market has grown into a nationwide wholesaler supplying Ireland’s hotel and restaurant industry, alongside a thriving online retail business offering gourmet hampers and gifts to consumers through thefrenchmarket.ie. Along the way, we’ve expanded our range to offer a wider selection of non-perishable foods for delicatessens, specialist food shops and wholesalers, alongside French cider, Lebanese beer, and a curated range of gift packaging and accessories for the wine sector.
Bringing Our Wines Home to You
During the pandemic, we opened up a new side of the business: a retail range of Wine Hampers & Gifts, launched through our website. It’s been one of the most rewarding additions we’ve made. Whether you’re planning a wedding, an engagement, a party, or simply want a case of something special to share with friends and family, we’re only a phone call away — and always happy to talk you through our range or recommend something we think you’ll love.
Corporate Gifting, Done Right
We also cater for the Irish corporate market. Our clients are from across the board, from large multinationals to small indigenous businesses rewarding their employees at Christmas. While we continue to serve our wholesale customers, our new and refreshed website offers a suite of hampers and gifts direct to consumers, or for corporate clients.
